Invite to InCOP Online – 15th January 2025

Our interim committee would like to welcome all those who are interested in planning for and responding to emergencies and disasters that affect people and animals to a meeting of a new support network, the International Community of Practice (Incidents Involving Animals). Formed at the 2024 BARTA Conference, this group has been established to ensure that all involved in planning and response to incidents involving animals, have access and affiliation to a network of like minded individuals for the benefit of mutual awareness, support and development. The initial online meeting will be an opportunity to meet contributors from around the world and begin to understand your needs and how we might best support your activities. BARTA Amendment of Articles of Association

Amendment of Articles of Association of British Animal Rescue and Trauma Care Association CIC(“BARTA”) The directors of BARTA intend to amend the objects clause in its Articles of Association. Our consultation exercise has already taken place and therefore this posting is advance notification of the steps BARTA intends to take following on from that exercise. If you have any concerns or feedback we would be very happy to hear from you. BARTA Working Groups Gather…

This month specialists from the veterinary and emergency services came together once again to agree best practice solutions to issues surrounding incidents involving animals. The large animal group focussed on lifting animals for rescue or medical suspension.  The type and availability of suitable lifting devices varies within rescue organisations and sometimes the most suitable solution may not come from within the organisation. Clear understanding of the problem is required, to make the right choices. Current practices were evaluated in order to support judgements for selection of device or method, based on informed situational awareness and the casualty centred rescue. Additionally, areas for development were identified and discussions had with equipment manufacturers around improvements that would promote safety or patient care. Oxygen therapy training for emergency responders

BARTA have launched new guidance for emergency service responders who regularly support pets caught up in fires and other traumas. Whilst the intention is always for animals to see a veterinarian as soon as possible, immediate lifesaving actions are often delivered by first responders. In recognition of this, BARTA are developing protocols to support national operational guidance through collaboration with veterinary critical care experts and animal behaviourists, plus end users such as the National Fire Chiefs Council technical group for animal rescue.
