Steve served in the UK Fire and Rescue Service in London, Hampshire and finally Royal Berkshire where he finished his career as Deputy Chief Fire Officer and Director of Service Delivery. He brings a wide range of Leadership, Management experience delivering positive cultural change and sector development throughout his career. In addition he is a highly experienced operational commander playing a lead role as an advanced (Silver) strategic (Gold) commander at a range of exercises and Major Incidents.
Steve has undertaken a range of regional and national leadership roles, collaborating with partners across multiple sectors to best serve the public need. This was seen through his role as the National Fire Chiefs Council lead for Incident Involving Animals and Animal Rescue since 2013. During his tenure progress was made to further embed Animal Rescue capabilities across services with Steve’s leadership supporting the successful delivery of National Occupational Standards and National Operational Guidance that expanded the sectors wider commitment to all incidents involving animals.
Steve has built relationships and worked with partners from across the UK in fire and veterinary communities, supporting BARTA as a presenter and chair for International Conferences. Steve now runs his own coaching and consultancy company and volunteers as a non-executive director on BARTA’s Board. He continues to be a strong and positive advocate for developing the UK’s understanding, planning and effective response for incidents involving animals.
